Historical Painting
This project was a true honor for us. The Scotts’ home is an officially recognized historic property in McKinney, Texas, and it carries both architectural and cultural significance. It is also featured in the annual Downtown McKinney calendar, which made the level of care and respect required for this project even more important.
When we paint older homes like this, we approach them the way they would have been painted when they were originally built. That mindset guided every decision on this project.
A Gentle, Respectful Process
We began with a soft wash of the home, avoiding pressure entirely. Older materials do not respond well to aggressive cleaning, so this method allowed us to remove buildup while preserving the integrity of the wood and existing surfaces.
Not a single ladder was leaned against the house during the entire project. Nothing touched the home except our brushes. This was intentional. Historic homes deserve to be treated delicately, and avoiding direct contact protects original siding, trim details, and joinery that cannot be easily replaced.
Brush Work and Craftsmanship
Much of the work was done by hand, using brushes to carefully apply paint the way craftsmen would have done over a century ago. This approach allows for better control, deeper penetration into the wood, and a finish that feels appropriate for a historic structure rather than overly modern or sprayed on.
Premium Paint for Longevity
We used premium exterior paint designed to hold color longer and resist fading over time. Historic homes require finishes that protect while still allowing the structure to breathe. The paint system chosen for this project helps preserve the character of the home while providing long-term durability against sun and weather.
Preserving History While Protecting the Future
Our goal with historic homes is never to make them look new. It is to make them look cared for. This project reflects that philosophy. Every detail was handled with intention, from surface preparation to final brush strokes.
Working on an officially recognized historic home in McKinney, especially one showcased in the downtown calendar, is not something we take lightly.
This project stands as a reminder that when craftsmanship, patience, and respect for history come together, the result is something that feels timeless rather than temporary.
This was a special one.
